A woman was killed by Jack the Ripper in November 1888. People knew her as Mary Jane Kelly, but her real name is unknown. In the absence of evidence to support her story that she was the widow of a Welsh coal miner she has been described as nursemaid to an illegitimate royal baby, an Irish terrorist, and even the estranged wife of Jack the Ripper.

In attempting to solve the mystery I document the facts, discuss the evidence, dismiss the speculation and ask if it is possible to finally name Mary Jane.
